National Wind Technology Center Tour

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL's) National Wind Technology Center (NWTC), located at the base of the foothills just south of Boulder, Colorado, is the nation's premier wind energy technology research facility. The center focuses on the development of advanced wind energy technologies through Turbine Research & Development and Technology Application & Testing. The research conducted at the center helps industry reduce the cost of energy so that wind can compete with traditional energy sources, providing a clean, renewable alternative for our nation's energy needs. Tour participants will learn about the research being conducted at the center, tour the facility and view the turbine technology on site for testing.

The tour will leave the Millennium Harvest House Boulder at 2:00 pm and will return to the same location. Light refreshments will be served on the bus. Tour participants should wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. To be admitted to the facility all participant must show a valid drivers license. Non-U.S. Citizens will need additional credentials. Requirements will be provided to you when you register for this tour.

								

Renewable Energy and Western Public Lands Forum: Toward a Shared Vision

As the western U.S. moves to develop renewable energy resources those resources, and the transmission to move renewable energy, may be located on public lands in the region. The Forum will bring together federal land agencies, land advocates, environmental organizations and renewable energy developers to begin to define a shared vision of the role that federal public lands will play in the future generation and transmission of renewable energy in the West.

Opening Reception

Join your colleagues in the hotel garden for light food and refreshments at the Opening Conference Reception. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed evening in a garden setting and afterwards enjoy dinner at a local restaurant or head to Pearl Street for an evening on the town. Registration will be open at the reception.

Lark in the Park Reception

After a full day at the conference take a lark in the park at this evening's reception. This sponsored event will provide food and beverage and the opportunity to sit and chat or view historic buildings on the grounds or take a short hike. Chautauqua Park is one of Boulder's favorite and oldest parks purchased in 1898. Located on the edge of Boulder and only a few miles from the conference hotel it offers attendees a true getaway. Casual dress is suggested.

Transportation will be provided from the Millennium Harvest House Boulder and Best Western Hotel to Chautauqua Park and back.

								

Ponnequin Wind Farm Tour

Friday, August 3, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Cost $45.00

Hop on the bus for a ride to the Xcel's Ponnequin Wind Facility. Located in Northern Colorado the facility has 44 turbines that can generate up to 30 megawatts of electricity. See and learn about the operation of Xcel's first wind project. The tour will show you the area and provide details on the operation of the 29 NEG Micon USA, Inc and 15 Vestas American turbines. These quiet giants reach over 65 meters or 200 feet into the air.

The bus will leave promptly at 8:00 am from the Millennium hotel and return to the same location by 1pm. Light Refreshments will be served on the bus.
